Julia Roberts Half-Sister Dead Of Suspected Drug OD
Julia Roberts is bypassing festivities surrounding her Oscar nomination this week following the death of her younger half-sister Nancy Motes.
A rep for the "August: Osage County" star tells E! News Roberts bowed out of Monday's Oscar nominees luncheon in Beverly Hills to be with her family. The 37-year-old was found dead Sunday in Los Angeles of an apparent drug overdose. The family, which also includes Julia's brother, actor Eric Roberts, is said to be both "shocked and devastated."
In an interview with the "New York Daily News" last year, Motes described her relationship with her famous half-sister as "a work in progress." She revealed that she was "incredibly hurt and very sad" over comments Julia had made about her weight over the years. Motes underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2010, cutting her 300-pound frame down by almost half. Despite their fragile relationship Motes told the "Daily News" at the time that she loved Julia "absolutely" and had no doubt that Julia loved her too.
