Jennifer Lopez first female to receive Icon Award at The Billboard Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez is an icon of dance pop music. Over the years, the international superstar has melted our hearts on the club floor with her succinctly perfect beats, keeping us all younger for another year. So, it’s no surprise that the Billboard Music Awards will be honoring the singer for her work with the Icon Award at this year’s May 18th event. Not only that, but Miss Lopez will also be performing at the show with Pitbull, as well as debut her new single “First Love.”

“Jennifer Lopez is one of the most iconic performers of her generation,” Larry Klein (show producer) said of the accolade, which is a lifetime achievement award. JLo is the fourth artist and the first female to be honored. Previously, the winners include Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder and Prince.

Klein added, “We are thrilled to honor her historic career with the 2014 Icon Award and will be on the edge of our seats like everyone else when she takes the stage.”

“First Love” is the latest single from her forthcoming set AKA, set for release on June 17. JLo’s 10th studio album features a bodacious cover in red leather. She explained the album’s title to Jimmy Kimmel, “A.K.A., which is Also Known As, because I’ve been given so many monikers. And I do a lot of different things.”

The Billboard Music Awards lineup also includes 5 Seconds of Summer, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Derulo, Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, John Legend and OneRepublic.

The 2014 Billboard Music Awards, produced by Dick Clark Productions, go live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18. It will be broadcast on the ABC Network at 8/7c.
