Jay Z On The Cover Of New York Magazine
Kanye West may have landed on the cover of Vogue with fiancée Kim Kardashian, but he isn't the only rapper appearing on magazine covers these days. New York Magazine has revealed that Kanye's partner in crime, Jay Z, is among the faces gracing its latest cover.
The picture is actually a throwback from 1997. The rapper is being celebrated for being part of the magazine's "Encyclopedia of New York Pop Music."
The accompanying article is penned by Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin, who writes about working with Jay on his track "99 Problems." He reveals that the idea to base the song's hook on Ice-T's "99 Problems" came from comedian Chris Rock. He also says that Jay tapped him because he was planning to retire after "The Black Album" and "wanted one song from each of his favorite producers."
