Best New Artist Nominee Spotlight: Icona Pop
They don't care, they love it! iHeartRadio Music Awards Best New Artist nominees Icona Pop knows how to have a good time. Their song "I Love It" became one of the biggest party anthems last year. In fact, the duo caught the attention of Queen of Twerk (and sticking out her tongue), Miley Cyrus. Icona Pop is currently opening for the star on her "BANGERZ" tour.
Aino and Caroline tell iHeartRadio that their recent success is "a dream come true." They revealed that they're currently working on a full-length studio album!

FAVORITE THING TO WEAR:
AINO - I have this Helmut Lang suit jacket and that’s kind of what I usually wear. It’s actually very unusual that I don’t have it, but it’s my favorite. It feels like it’s got superpowers in it. We always say that with clothes that we love.
CAROLINE - For me it’s actually by the same brand but it’s leather, laced shorts that I’ve been wearing like crazy. I think they will fall apart soon but I’ve been wearing them like every day. Even though it’s winter I’ve been wearing them with tights underneath.
FAVORITE ARTIST:
CAROLINE - I think we’ve been very inspired by Prince.
AINO - Yea, and David Bowie and Patti Smith. There’s a lot but I think those three are kind of the ones.
FAVORITE SONG TO DANCE TO:
AINO - Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place”. It’s [got] some kind of like grown-up groove in it, so even though you’re 50, you can dance to it
CAROLINE - It's timeless.
FAVORITE DECADE:
CAROLINE - I mean we’re 90s b*****s.
AINO - I kind of love and hate the 90s, you know the style. It was kind of futuristic, and it was always almost embarrassing. But I’d guess like 70s [and] 60s.
CAROLINE - Yea, inflatable backpacks and stuff that was [sic] supposed to look very futuristic. 60s, 70s and 90s are the favorite ones.
FAVORITE THING TO ORDER FROM ROOM SERVICE:
AINO - I mean coffee is the main thing.
CAROLINE - Yea, a big pot of coffee. We start our mornings with a big pot of coffee and a smoothie maybe and then we order food because you don’t pay directly, you pay afterward.
FAVORITE GUILTY PLEASURE:
CAROLINE - I think we are good at watching bad TV. "Cheaters." We travel so much so we never watch TV. But when we’re at the hotel room and have like 30 minutes, that’s a way to relax.
AINO - I love bad TV! "Cheaters," "Days of Our Lives."
FAVORITE THING ABOUT SWEDEN:
AINO - The summer is the favorite thing. Everyone loves Sweden in the summertime. It’s beautiful. And you can swim everywhere, even in the middle of the city if you want to, so I guess people really enjoy the summer.
CAROLINE - It’s so beautiful! I think because it’s [the summer] so short, people really enjoy and embrace the summer. You’re out, you’re doing stuff outdoors, you can just take the boat to some island in the archipelago and just barbeque with your friends. Everything is so easy. And then I think we have a very good system when it comes to voting and you can have a very good life in Sweden.
FAVORITE ZOO ANIMAL:
AINO - We love animals. Tigers, I think that's going to be mine. They're so cool. I love elephants as well.
CAROLINE - Yea elephants maybe. They look like they carry so much [sic] thoughts. And giraffes, they're so cute.
FAVORITE PHONE APP:
AINO - I love Shazam because there’s so many times when you wonder like, “oh, what song is this?” and then you can just Shazam it.
CAROLINE - I love Yelp. We Yelp everything when we’re on the road. And then we have this radio, podcast, radio station thing and we listen to all their documentaries when we’re on the road.
FAVORITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS:
CAROLINE - Big dinners. At home. Sit there and suck in all the love. The good thing is that you know, you have your friends, your real friends, and it doesn’t matter if you’re away for a year. When you see each other it’s like you’re just catching up very quickly and then you’re back on track.
AINO - It’s always chaotic. People are talking about stuff going on in their lives and you don’t have to talk about yourself that much you can actually just... enjoy everyone. There’s so much going on and you miss so much when you’re away. We don’t notice that we’re away like a week but sometimes it takes like six, seven months before we go back home to Sweden and then we’re only there for like two days. It's rare. We have the best friends.
FAVORITE WAY TO TRAVEL:
AINO - Flying.
CAROLINE - I mean, we still dream about having a very luxurious tour bus. I mean it’s a dream but we will have a tour bus then everyone can come to our parties on our tour bus.
FAVORITE DAY OF THE WEEK:
AINO/CAROLINE - Saturday.
CAROLINE - I think it’s because people are so happy on Saturdays, because you kind of feel like you have one day off still and you had one day off. Even though we are never free on Saturdays it’s the feeling of the vibe of the town.
AINO - It’s in the between. And our friends, when we’re home, they’re off so we can hang with them on Saturdays.
