Hayden Panettiere takes a tumble on tricky MET Gala red carpet
(Yahoo!) - The Met Gala has a red carpet like no other... as Hayden Panettiere learned the hard way.
The "Nashville" star attended the A-list fashion event for the first time on Monday night and, like the other guests from Beyoncé to Kim Kardashian, had to ascend the tricky red carpet staircase — which was lined with camera crews, photographers, reporters, and other gawkers — in her pastel blue-and-pink strapless Dennis Basso ballgown. While she made it up like a champ and celebrated the accomplishment "Rocky"-style, the blonde pulled a Jennifer Lawrence on the way down, taking a wee bit of tumble.
As she steadied herself in her heels, the 24-year-old, who is engaged to Wladimir Klitschko, cheerily wagged a finger at a paparazzo who snapped the moment from the street below. (Photographers who are granted access to cover the event are actually instructed not to take any pictures of the guests exiting the event, likely for this exact reason.) And Rihanna, who knew how hard the staircase was to maneuver, was spotted to Panettiere's side having a giggle over the whole incident.
In fairness to Panettiere, she still looks pretty glamorous mid-fall, doesn't she? There's not a hair out of place on that pretty updo, which was decorated with fancy Fred Leighton jewels. Even her "Oh, my god I'm going to bite it" face is pretty adorable. She's been acting since she was 7, so she played it off pretty well.
In that moment we can also see her thinking: Why didn't I bring Wladimir? The heavyweight boxing champ, whom she became engaged to last year, certainly would have kept her steady.
Earlier in the evening, Panettiere made one of the more fun arrivals on the red carpet at the fashion fete. When she finally reached the top of the towering staircase, she yelled, "Hallelujah! I made it up the stairs." She then threw her arms over her head and cheered, making all the reporters laugh.
The actress can consider this whole debacle just more practice for her future wedding to Klitschko, which has been postponed due to the turmoil in his native Ukraine. "Everything that's happening in Ukraine definitely put a hold on things. But we have time," she recently told Parade regarding her nuptials..
Perhaps even time to change up her dress style? If she was thinking ballgown bottom, maybe she can opt for tea length instead?
