Billboard Music Awards finalists revealed

She can’t stop, and she won’t stop. No, we’re not only talking about Miley Cyrus (who earned a healthy share of nominations), but mostly the 17-year-old Lorde. The “Royals” chanteuse leads the pack for this year’s Billboard Music Awards, earning nods in an impressive 12 categories. She is tied with Imagine Dragons for the most.

Fueled by their Night Visions disc and hit single “Radioactive,” Imagine Dragons landed in such pinnacle categories as Top Artist, Top Duo/Group, Top Hot 100 Artist, and Top Digital Artist. Likewise, Lorde (with a smash hit under her proverbial belt) is seeing much-deserved major industry recognition, heated off the New Zealander’s debut set Pure Heroine, featuring the ubiquitous single “Royals” and current radio entry “Team.”

Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis follow with 11, 10 and 8 nods apiece, respectively. Perry’s success, especially, is remarkable. After hitting a milestone of five No. 1 hits on her previously record (Teenage Dream), she continues her streak with “Roar” (which landed in Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song and Top Radio Song, among others), lifted from her blockbuster Prism.

Timberlake, also, gets plenty of love, as his two-disc The 20/20 Experience proved to be voter darlings.

“Talk Dirty” singer Jason Derulo took to Good Morning America on Wednesday (April 9) to break the news.

Other major nominees include Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Drake, among many others.

Finalists for the Milestone Award, as presented by Chevrolet are: Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Luke Bryan, OneRepublic, Ellie Goulding and Carrie Underwood.

The batch of nominees were determined through qualities of music, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, VEVO, Spotify and other outlets. Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound played an integral role in reporting the measurements.

The Billboard Music Awards go live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Sunday, May 18. It will be broadcast on the ABC-TV Network at 8/7c.
